Experimental investigation of thermal swing piston insulation at single cylinder gasoline engine

Abstract The reduction of carbon dioxide emissions and the corresponding increase in gasoline engine efficiency are crucial development. Wall heat losses a major cause loss, accounting for 15–30% total fuel energy. One promising solution is use "thermal swing" coatings at combustion chamber walls because offering possibility that surface wall temperature following working gas temperature, whereby transfer can be reduced any time during cycle. This type coating material characterized by low thermal conductivity and, same time, capacity. Based on idea “thermal swing” coatings, yttria stabilized zirconia (YSZ) was selected as piston its potential experimentally investigated single-cylinder engine. highly dynamic probes allowed precise analysis cycle-based fluctuations, especially surface. transmission temperatures cable-based accomplished through lever system measurement results confirmed minimal impact determined preliminary simulations. However, effect could established measurements.
